Volleyball at Kaycee Tournament

I had the pleasure of watching our girls varsity play at the Kaycee Jamboree! They were spectacular! They played "home town" Kaycee in the tournament championship in a best two out of three sets. Our team came up just short of upsetting the 3rd ranked Buckaroos. I guess the girls are saving that win for the state tournament. Well done girls!

Meeteetse Jr. High wins

Hey football fans,
The Jr. High football team had their first game and the boys came to play. After they got the first seires gitters out of the way they settled down and flew around making plays. The Robert Rockets have a solid team and it was a great test for the Horns. The defense stepped up and never gave up the big play. On the offesive side of the ball several Horns broke loose for big gains and touchdowns. These boys are a fun bunch and they hope to keep the good times going this Saturday at Ten Sleep.
Go Horns!
Coach Bennion

The Lady Horn Volleyball team began the season with a very competitive tournament and competed very well against some strong 1A and 2A opponents.

Beginning the regular season last Friday at home against Dubois, the Lady Horns won in three straight sets. The varsity teamed served at above 90%; which demonstrates consistent serving. We are working on serving to locations in practice along with a continued emphasis on offensive and defensive coverage. That Friday we will travel to Ten Sleep to play the much improved Lady Pioneers. On Saturday we will be traveling to Thermopolis to play in the Thermopolis Tournament. This tournament will include some strong 1A teams along with some excellent teams from the 2A and 3A levels.

Beyond Activities

Members of the girls volleyball team took advantage of their last free weekend without games and contests to go camping up Woodriver. It is nice to see activities manifest themselves into so much more than just a sport or contest. Lifelong friendships and lasting memories are made. In behalf of the district, I would like to wish the volleyball team luck at the Lovell Tournament held this weekend. I am sure they will do well. Go Longhorns!

Football Welcome

Another exciting season of Longhorn football is around the corner! Coach Hagemeister and I are honored to have been given the opportunity to work with each of you. With 100% effort from each of us I know we can have a rewarding and successful season.

First things first, there are some things that need to be taken care of before we begin practice on the 17 of August. As always, you will need to have proof that you have had a physical turned into the school. As far as equipment, all you will need is a pair of black football cleats.

We will be having a parent and player meeting on August the 17th at 5:00 in the school lunch room. During this meeting we will review rules for practice, games, and eligibility. Also we will discuss playing time, letter requirement, goals, and parental involvement. At this time the players will be excused, and there will be a parent expectation meeting. This time will be used to discuss coaching expectations and the parent/coach communication process. It is important that each of you planning on playing football this year attend this meeting. Until then, have a great final few weeks of summer!

Volleyball Meetings for Players and Parents

August 4, 2009

The following letter was sent to Meeteetse Volleyball Players and Parents on August 3, 2009.

Dear Meeteetse Volleyball Players and Parents,

Volleyball season will begin at Meeteetse High School on August 17, 2009. This is also the first day of school. The purpose of this letter is to:
1) Invite players and parents to attend information and expectation meetings that will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2009 and,
2) To inform you about items each student athlete should have available on the first day of practice.

The Player meeting will take place at 5:30 pm on August 13, followed by the Parent meeting at 6:15 pm. Both meetings will address expectations the coaching staff and school have regarding participation in volleyball. Parent topics will include coaching expectations, the role of parents, and the parent/coach communication process. The player meeting will focus on practice, game and eligibility rules, playing time, lettering requirements, goals and parental involvement.

Volleyball does not require a great deal of equipment. Student/Athletes will be expected to arrive to practice on August 17 with appropriate workout clothing and a good pair of court shoes. Volleyball specific shoes are highly recommended but not mandatory. Shoes that may substitute are a well vented, non-marking shoe such as running shoes or other court sport shoes. Players must have a physical exam on file before they will be allowed to attend any practice sessions. With a small number of athletes, we need everyone to have their physicals before the first practice and be able to attend the nine practice sessions before our first tournament on August 28th.

Assistant Coach Ronee Hogg and I are excited about the upcoming season and look forward to the development of a competitive (winning) program and helping our student/athletes become the best they can be. We both have very high expectations for this season and hope you share that enthusiasm and commitment to Lady Horn Volleyball. Please feel free to call me at
307-431-1510 or at school (868-2501) any time you have a question about Lady Longhorn Volleyball.

Sincerely,

Shaun Nicklas
Head Volleyball Coach

Welcome!

Welcome to the Meeteetse Activity Blog! This site is designed to provide Meeteetse stakeholders more information on the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at our school. Look for information such as open gym: times and dates, practice times, activity handbook items, game summaries, travel agendas and much, much more. You will see posts from coaches, administrators and teachers. We hope you will be a regular visitor at this site. I think it will help bridge the communication gap between school activities and the community. Look for back to school information to be posted within the next several weeks.
