Athletic Banquet -- Jr. High Girls

It was a privilege to be able to coach the Jr. High girls this season. They are a fun and unique bunch of individuals that came together as a team. The improvement that each girl made was awesome and so much fun to see everyday in practice. Every girl contributed to the team and shared in celebrating our Third Place win at the confrence tournament.
The awards that were given out were as follows : Offensive MVP --Cheyanne Camblin , Defensive MVP -- Tori Lewis ,Tournament MVP -- Amelia May, Most Improved -- Taylor Coady, The Glass Cleaner Award -- Cheyenne Foote , The Coaches Award -- Ashton Abarr , The Rising Star Award -- 6th grade Brooklynn Graybill , 7th grade Caitlyn Hiser , 8th grade Haley Sessions. With everybody making such a contribution it was difficult to make these decisions.
The whole team, 8th grade: Amelia May , Ashton Abarr ,Tristen Brewer , Cheyanne Camblin ,Cheyann Justice , Cheyenne Foote , Haley Campsey , Haley Sessions , Kaelyn Hodson , Tori Lewis , Taylor Coady , Sami Moger
7th grade : Aspen Eldredge , Caitlyn Hiser , Sarah Cushenberry , Tiffany Ward , Brianna Sweeney 6th grade : Brooklynn Graybill , Darbi Schlenker , Karli Renner , Melanie Riley.
At one point in the season the coaches were taping nine girls ankles. Thats a lot of tape, but really shows how tough the girls are to still go out and compete. A big thanks to Sami , who got hurt in the first game , but still cheered on her team mates and helped with managing the team. Also to Tristen , who missed some games, you kept your spirits up and came back at the end of the season to contribute at tournament,,
I think every coach wants to win their last game of the season. That would mean a championship , third place , or a consolation championship. But over all to end on a win is a big lift to the program. Over the last five games these girls went 4 and 1 ending with the third place win. They were playing their best basketball at the end of the season. Another coach comented on what an improvment he saw in our team and was glad that the season didn't have another week or two because he didn't want to face us again.
Going from 20 girls to maybe ten next year , there will probably be some growing pains as these younger girls step into the leadership rolls and more playing time. I am confident that both Aspen and Caitlyn will be great leaders and these sixth graders will also step up to have a competitive season.
Thanks again to all the parents and fans for your support. We always had a great crowd whether at home or away. You rock!!
A big thanks to Coach Foote!! You have a great competitive spirit and had my back the whole season. You did a great job!
It really was a privilege to have this opportunity. I don't think there could be a more pretty picture than to see all these girls with smiles on their faces. If you get a chance, ask one to say the pledge of the hoop. Its cool. It would be my hope that all these girls get to stay together because the potential of greatness is within their grasp.
Thanks again to all !!

Athletic Banquet -- Jr. High Boys

It was great to celebrate the basketball season on Thursday the 18th. Congradulations to all the student athletes and the effort that was given during the season.
The Jr. High boys had a successful season that ended with a hard fought victory and a third place at the tournament. I was very proud of all the boys with the effort and improvment that each one showed during the season.
The awards that were given out were as follows: MVP to Seth Bennett ,The Glass Cleaner award to Jasper Smith , Mr. Hustle to Shawn Shepperson , Most Improved to Jacob Allen , The Rising Star to Scott Sessions.
The whole team deserves recognition for their efforts. 8th grade : Seth Bennett , Jasper Smith 7th Grade: Zach Burbank , Alex Poole , Hank Wagers , Jacob Allen , Wilson Renner 6th Grade: Hunter Allen , Shawn Shepperson , Scott Sessions , Gabriel Kreitzer , Roberto Hernandez.
These two eighth graders were our leaders this year , so the younger guys will have to step up next year and take on those rolls. I have total confidence in these boys and their abilitiy to make that step and have a very competitive season.
Thanks to all the parents and fans that gave their support. We appreciate that very much!! Thanks again to the boys for the effort and improvment. Thanks to Coach Paxton for your support and guidence during the season. It was a blast !!
Always riding for the Longhorn brand,
Coach Bennion

Jr. High Tournament

The Jr. high had a successful tournament over the weekend of Febuary 19th and 20th. With a coin flip we ended up going in to tournament as the 3rd seed and faced the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies, who with a couin flip was the 2nd seed. We came out with some nerves showing and couldn't get those first shots to fall. We played good defence and held Rocky to one of their lowest point totals all season but still fell 25 to 15.

We next played a much improved Ten Sleep team on saturday morning. We came out with a lot more fire and shot the ball better .In the second half we let down a little and let the Pioneers make a run , but held them off for the win , with the score of 32 to 26.

With that win we played Cloud Peak in the game that decided third place. We again came out with some fire and shot the ball very well. Again in the second half we had a let down and made it way to close. Having a let down is something we need to work on not having. To our girls credit they didn't panic , kept playing hard , made some free throws at the end and held on 22 to 19 for third place. As their coach i am so proud of the effort that each and every one of these girls put into this whole season. Each one made a lot of improvment and it really showed as the season progressed.

It will be great to watch these 12 eighth graders as they move into the High school ranks and also the progress of the 7th and 6th graders as they continue to grow and develop the skills they showed this year.

Congrats on the third place finish !!!
